Ford intends to "reinvent the American car". That's why the company is forced to abandon the sedans and hatchbacks in favor of pickup trucks and SUVs. This was in an interview with Automotive News, said chief executive officer Ford James Hackett.
According to Hackett, this decision does not mean that the manufacturer wants to lose customers. Ford just "intends to offer what they really need". At the same time, the company will produce "modern models of a new generation" of any price category.
Earlier, the American manufacturer issued a message stating that by 2020 the 90% brand line will consist of SUVs and pickups. The only "cars" in it will be a Mustang coupe and a cross version of the Focus under the name Active.
The strategic plan also provides for the phased release of hybrid modifications of the most popular models – the F-150, the Mustang, the Explorer, the Escape and the Bronco – and the mass production of a new generation of electric vehicles.
